Athletics

Atletiek is een van die sportsoorte by Klein Boishaai waar massadeelname te alle tye aangemoedig word. Hiermee verbeter ons nie net die kwaliteit van ons atlete nie, ons ontdek ook nuwe talent en poog om ‘n bydrae te maak tot die algemene fiksheid vir alle deelnemers in alle sportsoorte.

As we have limited space on our fields, we make use of coaching at Buco Brug Street sports fields for hurdles, javelin, discus as well as middle and long distance running.

Ons atlete neem jaarliks aan verskeie laerskole se uitnodigings-byeenkomste deel, asook aan byeenkomste wat deur die Boland Atletiekunie aangebied word. Hul prestasie is prysenswaardig en dien as aansporing vir ons ander atlete om nog harder te oefen. 

Ons graad R-leerders word ook betrek om by die Interhuis byeenkoms deel te neem en sommer gedurende die eerste week van skool reeds hul talente ten toon te stel.  Ons nooi ook die graad R-dogters van Hoër Meisieskool Paarl en Laerskool La Rochelle om aan ons spesiale graad R-Atletiekdag deel te neem.

We end our season with our Prestige Boys’ Schools Athletics Meeting  at Buco Brug Street. This meeting always provides for great entertainment, with some the best athletes participating  from the following schools:

Paarl Boys’ Primary

Rondebosch Boys’ Preparatory

Wynberg Boys Junior

SACS

Bishops Diocesan College

​Ons is baie trots op die onderstaande prestasies gedurende die 2020 seisoen:

Tydens die Boland Sentrale Atletiekbyeenkoms het 10 leerders gekwalifiseer om aan die Boland Kampioenskappe deel te neem. Hulle is: Kéan van Zyl, Ben de Villiers, Juan van der Merwe, Jacques van der Merwe, Reinhardt van Heerden, Rulo Barnard, Mark Grindlay, Kaleb Holmes, Schalk Meiring en JP Immelman. Ons is verskriklik trots op JP, Kéan, Schalk, Reinhardt en Juan wat daarna in die Bolandspan opgeneem is en aan die Wes-Kaap Kampioenskappe deelgeneem het. Hulle het ook Provinsiale Kleure in atletiek verwerf!

Reinhardt van Heerden received a silver medal at the Western Cape Championships for his spectacular performance in high jump.  Juan van der Merwe received a bronze medal for his achievement in shot put. JP (Hurdles), Kéan (Hurdles) and Juan (Discus) also impressed us with obtaining a 5th place in their events. Both Reinhardt and Juan were also selected to take part at the South African Schools’ Athletics Championships, but this event was cancelled due to the Pandemic.

Team Selection

​We encourage mass participation for all the track and field events during our annual Interhouse meeting at the beginning of the year. Learners put their own names down for the events before the meeting.

After the meeting, the results are used to select athletes for the first zonal meeting.

As with the field events, athletes for the track events are also chosen on merit. 

All athletes who are selected for the field and track events, form part of the athletics team who will then practice on the days as indicated on the extra-mural programme. They will also take part in different meets throughout the duration of the athletics season.
